Spartacus Legends is a video game adaptation of the Starz historical action TV series Spartacus. It was released as a free-to-play and discontinued since 2015.

Premise

The game is set in the Ancient Rome in the Republican era. It features Spartacus, a gladiator who became the leader of a slaves' rebellion, however, it does not follow the titular character's biography. The game is loosely based on the prequel miniseries Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and centered around gladiatorial arena fights. The game allows both single player and multiplayer.

Gameplay overview

Spartacus Legends combines elements of the fighting genre with a sports simulation. The game puts the player into the role of an organizer of the arena fights. The player can purchase new gladiators and equip them with new weapons and armor. As the player wins more matches, his or her gladiators earn experience, and more equipment is unlocked. He or she can also purchase any items using the real-world money.

Combat

During battles, the player controls his or her gladiator while trying to defeat the opponent controlled either by the AI or by another player. The combat mechanics are simple and repetitive. They consist of kicks, punches, rolls, and blocks that can be used in a progression to form combo movements. There are also finishing moves that allow a gladiator to execute his or her opponent in a bloody and spectacular manner.
