Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a third-person action-adventure game based on the Ghostbusters franchise. The game features voice acting from the principal cast members from the original movie.

Plot

The game’s plot is partially based on the script of the unreleased Ghostbusters III movie. The game follows Rookie, a new member of the Ghostbusters team. A large psychokinetic energy wave hits New York which results in releasing many ghosts in the city and providing main heroes with many calls to capture them. During their ghost hunts, Ghostbusters team reveals the plan for merging real word with ghost world and that Ivo Shandor, the architect of 55 Central Park West building is behind it.

Gameplay

Throughout the game, the player participates in several ghost hunting missions. They consist of exploring the environments, solving puzzles and fighting ghosts. The combat part of the game shares some similarities with other third-person shooter games. You have several different weapons at your disposal mostly centered on your Proton Pack. However, the player does not only need to shoot ghosts to weaken them, but also have to entrap them using Capture Stream.

Game versions

Aside from PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows, the game was also released for PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS, and Wii systems. The later four versions are often referred as “Stylized Version,” as opposed to the original “Realistic versions” and feature some changes in controls, visuals and, especially for DS port, in gameplay.
