The universe of unusual creatures with interesting skills undoubtedly possesses many qualities of a well-developed world. One such feature is Pokémon natures. This concept defines, so to speak, the personality of each caught companion.

It first appeared in the third generation and was intended to make the gaming experience more unique and diverse: from then on, players needed to prepare their fighters more carefully for battles.

What is nature?

It is a trait inherent in each character that increases one attribute by 10% while decreasing another also by 10%. Starting with Pokémon HeartGold, SoulSilver, you can look at the color of the trait to understand how nature has influenced it:

  • Blue color decreases;
  • Red color increases.

It also determines the taste preferences of Pokémon in Pokeblocks, Poffin. This makes sense: some creatures like or dislike certain foods.

Can nature be changed?

Starting from the 8th generation, a warriors' so-called characteristic properties can be changed using mints. These only transform the stats, while the Pokémon's nature name and its taste preferences remain unchanged.

Mints are consumable items that are easy to obtain. In Sword & Shield, they are sold at the Battle Tower, found on the Isle of Armor and in the Crown Tundra. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the plant can be purchased at a farm in Jubilife Village. In Scarlet & Violet, this so-called treat is sold at Chansey Supply, randomly appears in the world.

How to choose the best nature?

There is no one-size-fits-all rule here since each companion is unique and requires a personalized approach. However, there are a few recommendations that can help you decide:

  • Identify the strong points of a game pet. For example, Mareep has powerful special abilities, so Modest or Quiet would be perfect natures for it.
  • Understand the role a fighter plays in the team. While almost any Pokémon can be adapted to different tasks, some excel more than others in certain roles. For example, Chansey is a good tank, so Bold or Calm, which enhance defense or special defense, would be preferable.
  • Compensating for weaknesses. If, for example, a Caterpie's nature decreases defense but increases attack, it would actually weaken the creature since it would last shorter in battle and deal less damage.

We hope our article has helped you choose the best nature for the characters.
