There are few pure Dragon type Pokémon. There are only thirteen in total, and one of them is a legendary character, which is difficult to compare with the others.

When choosing a hero from this category, you should remember that they have an advantage only over their own type, but are weak against Dragon, Ice, Fairy-types.

Goomy

Undoubtedly, this is the weakest Dragon-type Pokémon. It's even hard to call the character a dragon. Goomy resembles more of a shell-less snail. As for combat potential, It can withstand some attacks thanks to 75th special defense.

Jangmo-o

Jangmo-o is definitely better than the previous hero in terms of characteristics, but it still lags behind the others due to moves. Dragon-type attacks are available later than for others, so it will have an advantage. Scales provide decent physical protection. Assails are not the weakest. If you visually like Jangmo-o, you can achieve a few victories on the edge of survival with this character.

Bagon

BagonImage: facts.net

Bagon dreams of flying, and this trait has completely shaped the nature and abilities of the creature. Daily jumps from cliffs should have led to the Pokémon's demise, but surprisingly, it only tempered its heads, making the skull almost steel-like. Unfortunately, the creature never managed to fly.

This is a physically strong Pokémon, which is logical from the backstory. Despite being a Dragon-type, it has Fire, Dark, Psychic moves, which is quite unusual.

Dratini

DratiniImage: games-sovetnik.ru

Dratini is a pseudo-legendary from the first generation. This Pokémon is so shy that it was long considered mythical. As it grows, it accumulates a significant amount of life energy, which leads to frequent shedding. The longer the sea serpent grows, the more often it hides behind waterfalls to shed skin. This shed skin is often made into exquisite and expensive boots.

The main gameplay feature is a vast array of different types of attacks. In the second generation, a characteristic move was Dragon Rage. However, from the third generation onwards, Dratini was left without any signature moves. Among other moves, there is a substantial number of Dragon-type attacks. Overall, it's a good Pokémon for dealing damage, but health and defense can fail at the most inopportune moment.

Axew

AxewImage: thenerdstash.com

Axew often tests the strength of tusks, sometimes breaking them. However, the breakage of the main tool does not dismay the Pokémon. It soon grows back even stronger, sharper than before. With their help, the character makes territorial marks on trees, crushes berries, fights enemies, and even climbs walls and trees.

Total stats sum up to 320, which is higher than predecessors. The hero predominantly has Normal-type moves, but there are also several Dragon-type attacks. Good assail, defense, speed stats make Axew an excellent physical fighter.

Fraxure

Fraxure is the first evolution of Axew. The total stats are 410. At this stage, the tusks no longer grow back if broken, so the Pokémon carefully sharpens them against river rocks. Fraxure's skin is as hard as armor, and favorite strategy is to attack the opponent while simultaneously striking with tusks.

This is a very fierce and territorial character. Hero becomes enraged if a fellow species steps on the hero's territory. It most often inhabit areas along rivers.

In terms of moves, there is an increase in Dragon and Dark-type attacks, which doesn't change much. However, the damage becomes so significant that one should think twice before going into battle against this Pokémon.

Shelgon

ShelgonImage: facts.net

Shelgon is the evolution of Bagon. Total stats equal 420. It has encased the body in a hard shell to conserve energy for final evolution. The character never eats completely. It seems the creature will evolve once it has used up all energy reserves. While bony armor allows it to easily deflect enemy attacks, this also makes the hero very slow.

In addition to Dragon-type attacks, Shelgon can learn moves of Normal, Dark, Fire, Psychic, Poison, Flying, Ghost, Rock, Water, Steel, both through training machines and leveling up. The Pokémon inhabits caves, where it remains motionless until it evolves. Logically, it has excellent defense and damage but very weak special defense and speed.

Dragonair

Dragonair also has a total stat sum of 420. However, thanks to the diverse moveset, we consider this Pokémon to be far stronger than the previous one. It inhabits untouched oceans and lakes. Dragonair has the ability to control the weather, a power it uses to fly in the sky with the help of wind and the wings on head.

The sea serpent gathers power in the orbs on tail, and when it's enveloped in an aura, it appears quite mystical. Because of this, Dragonair was often referred to as a divine Pokémon in ancient times.

In terms of moves, one Electric-type has been added. Characteristics differ from initial form only in increased numbers, with attack being the leading stat as well.

Sliggoo

Sliggoo has a total stats sum of 452. Although not very powerful, the body is covered in such corrosive slime that it can melt anything. For this reason, predators do not approach the Pokémon.

In this form, it fully resembles a snail. Moreover, Sliggoo has also gone blind, making it difficult for the hero to distinguish allies from prey. It navigates surroundings using horns on head, which act as a radar.

In terms of moves, the Pokémon has been short-changed, but statistics are surprisingly good. Following special defense, the attack stat leads.

Druddigon

Druddigon has a total stats sum of 485. It lives in caves but never misses a chance to bask in the sun, as it cannot move if body gets too cold. Character is fierce and cunning, capable of inhabiting nests dug by other Pokémon. To absorb the maximum amount of sunlight, it uses wings shaped like thistle leaves. However, this character is rarely seen flying.

Druddigon resembles a dragon Pokémon more than any other. It possesses wild physical strength and can skillfully chase prey around the lair, catching them with elongated claws or by charging headfirst. It has Dark-type moves, making it an interesting, challenging opponent. Attack reaches a whole 120 units, with defense, special defense ranking second.

Haxorus

The tusks are Haxorus's pride and joy. The hero scrapes off dirt to absorb minerals necessary for keeping tusks in excellent condition. Generally, it is a kind-hearted Pokémon, but it can become quite intimidating if provoked. Tusks can slice through steel beams and have become so hardened that they now never break.

The total stats equal an impressive 540. The moves are not much different from previous forms, but there are some changes in characteristics. Attack still leads, with speed now in second place. The opponent won't have time to react before it's already defeated.

Regidrago

Regidrago is one of the legendary titans. The character's arms are made of a dragon's skull and jaws. The Pokémon consists of crystallized dragon energy that was used to construct the body. The crystals ran out before completion because people feared hero could destroy the world.

The creature possesses a unique assail, Dragon Energy, which has 100% accuracy and deals massive damage. The ability Dragon's Maw increases power. Stats are equal to 580. It's extremely resilient and have decent damage output. However, Regidrago knows only one fast attack — Bite. The Pokémon's base characteristics are excellent, but the limited choice of attacks ultimately undermines much of potential.

Goodra

GoodraImage: wallpapercave.com

Goodra surpasses all other Dragon-type Pokémon in terms of stats, which total 600. Yet, it's still not the brightest. Sometimes the hero does not understand the trainer's instructions and looks bewildered.

When attacking, Goodra stretches horns significantly and strikes with a force 100 times stronger than that of a heavyweight boxer, yet the character is cheerful, affectionate. It loves to hug trainer, generously covering them with slime, which, fortunately, is not poisonous. However, the Pokémon's friendliness is often mistaken for weakness. But it can surprise tormentors with retractable horns and powerful tail.

At first glance, it might not seem like the strongest Pokémon, but that changes as soon as you see the creature in action. Goodra is capable of delivering blows with incredible force. Thanks to slime mixed with a layer of fat, the character makes opponents' attacks literally slide off the body. Signature move is camouflage. It has a multitude of different moves, particularly of the Water-type.

The strength in perseverance

PokémonImage: mavink.com

The top list of pure Dragon-type Pokémon may have come as a surprise to many. The first and last places are occupied by different forms of the same hero, who doesn't even resemble a dragon in initial forms. This is somewhat instructive. Help a weak creature grow, and it will reward you with strength in the future.

Of course, if the selection included Pokémon of mixed classes, the places would have been taken by entirely different characters. But if you're interested in purebred dragons, these heroes will make an excellent choice.
