LEGO games are highly popular among gamers of all ages. This comes as no surprise since the famous building set connects us with our childhood. There are many people who buy LEGO sets and collect them even as adults.

However, video games based on this theme have one drawback — they don't offer as much freedom as the actual building set. You will be limited by the storyline and small locations where creativity cannot be fully unleashed. Essentially, the most important feature of the building set is lost, and Epic Games took note of this. Within the Fortnite project, they have given us what all LEGO fans have been waiting for — freedom of creativity and action.

What is LEGO mode in Fortnite

So, LEGO Fortnite is a large, free mode to the original game. The project launched on December 7, 2023, and became very popular, attracting a vast number of players.

This mode is significantly different from the standard battle royale and other game modes. It is a full-fledged survival game involving exploration of a gigantic world, building, crafting, fighting, and interacting with other players.

If you're a loner or don't want to achieve success through toil and trouble, don't despair. LEGO Fortnite offers a very flexible world customization system. Upon joining the mode, you'll be offered to join an existing world or create your own. Access to your cozy world can be restricted, allowing you to survive there in proud solitude along with NPCs.

The game also provides convenient difficulty settings. You can enable sandbox mode, where resources are unlimited, or customize the survival mode yourself. For instance, you can disable hunger, hostile NPCs, cold, and other parameters. It's crucial to precisely configure your world, as you won't be able to change the settings after starting.

A nice feature is that the game procedurally generated the environment, making each survival experience uniquely your own.

How to connect to LEGO Fortnite

Access to the mode can be found in the Epic By tile. Upon connecting, your Fortnite character will transform into a plastic minifigure, and its skin, if supported by the mode, will be retained. The pickaxe and glider do not transfer into the game, so don't be alarmed. In any case, there are many skins in this mode, and there will be even more in the future.

If you link to your profile on Fortnite LEGO Insiders, you can obtain the appearance of Emily the Explorer.

Starting survival

So, you've appeared in the colorful world of the game. Notably, not everything here is done in LEGO style. This can even be considered a plus, as the landscapes are more realistic and beautiful. It makes sense to choose the most picturesque place for your future base, but before that, you need to try not to die. After all, this is a survival game, so all skills from similar projects will come in handy.

Small stones and branches are scattered right under your feet. Great! You can immediately gather resources for your first tools and dwelling. It makes sense to immediately create an axe and a pickaxe to chop trees and split stones. We'll talk about crafting items a bit later.

Besides building materials, you'll also need food. Don't let the hunger bar drop too low, or your character will start losing health. Luckily, food also grows right at your feet. In the beginning, you can collect raspberries, corn, and melons. This should be enough to survive.

Crafting and Building

Soon you'll notice ice forming at the edges of the screen. This means your character is starting to freeze, and it's time to set up camp. You can place your first shelter anywhere, but in the future, it would be wise to choose a separate area for a village, but more on that later.

In the corner of the screen, you'll see notifications about unlocked recipes for building. By gathering stones and branches, you'll be able to build a fire. It's advisable to do this before nightfall to avoid freezing. Additionally, you can fend off the cold with a torch.

You'll also need to find shelter from the rain. You will require a roof over your head. Here, you have two options: building using pre-made blueprints or free building. The choice is yours. Blueprints will show you the layout of parts, making the process faster.

Note: Buildings cannot be moved or quickly demolished. You can demolish a structure using tools and explosives, so choose the locations of your buildings wisely.

It's crucial to place a bed — this will be your respawn point. In case of death, the character will respawn at the bed.

Your first camp should also include a workbench, which also needs to be placed under a roof, as your character won't want to work in the rain. On the workbench, you can create tools for work, weapons, and unlock new recipes. In the future, the workbench will need to be upgraded to create more advanced items.

Your settlement and attracting NPCs

It's time to think about your own village, as it's an important part of the game. You should allocate a spacious area on the map for it, as there may be many buildings in the future. Also, if you're playing on a higher difficulty, it wouldn't hurt to create walls for protection against hostile creatures.

Why build an entire village? It's one of the main mechanics of LEGO Fortnite. Even if you're playing alone, NPCs will join you. They act not just as amusing companions but also as very useful assistants. You can assign different tasks to village residents, such as resource gathering and crafting, significantly easing survival and development.

Each NPC is unique. They have different skills, and players can assemble their best build for efficient base operation.

Once you've chosen a picturesque location for your village, it's time to build the first house. Place two beds in the house — the second sleeping spot will be assigned to the first NPC. New residents won't come just because they don't know there's a village yet. To attract future villagers, you need to create and install a Village Square. Crafting it requires only 10 wood and 10 granite.

Through the Village Square, you'll be able to upgrade the village level to unlock new buildings and increase the number of residents.

After this, NPCs will start appearing in the village. You need to talk to them and invite them to live in your village. Don't be discouraged if they refuse. Their unwillingness to settle can be justified. For example, you might not have a free bed, but this is easily fixed.

However, they might refuse because your village is not developed enough. NPCs appear randomly, so very demanding guests might visit you at the start of the game. Don't be discouraged, as they will come to you regularly.

It's important to know that residents don't need food or separate housing. They only require beds. You can build a separate beautiful house for each NPC, but there's also nothing stopping you from housing them all in one large dormitory. To evict a resident, simply remove their bed.

Assigning work to NPCs

LEGO FortniteImage: Ensiplay

This is quite simple. You just need to talk to a villager about work. After that, you can assign them to the desired position, but you need to consider certain nuances. For example, a villager won't be able to engage in blacksmithing if you don't have the necessary equipment.

It's also easy to reassign villagers to different positions. Each villager may have their own work preferences. They will tell you what they can do best. You can take one of the NPCs with you to explore the world. It's very convenient if your companion enjoys fights.

Production

No game of this kind is complete without established production. In LEGO Fortnite, everything is in order, so you can automate full production chains.

LEGO FortniteImage: Ensiplay

For instance, you can engage in animal husbandry. To do this, you need to build a farm plot where you can breed various animals that will provide you with resources. Fortunately, it's not necessary to kill the poor pets. To collect resources, you simply need to pet the animal.

Animals need to be fed, and this process can be automated. On the farm, you can grow wheat, and at the grain crusher, you can grind it into feed for the animals. Don't forget, all of this can be done by NPCs.

LEGO FortniteImage: Ensiplay

In addition to horticulture and animal husbandry, there's also heavy production. For example, you can build an entire steel mill. All of this not only provides resources for the village but also offers aesthetic pleasure, especially if everything works automatically.

Exploring the World

The vast open world here is not just for show. It's interesting to explore and brings its own rewards. Right from the start of the game, you will encounter fireflies that lead you to loot piñatas or chests.

You should start with the caves scattered across the map. Before you head out, make sure you're equipped with tools and torches, as the caves can be complex and extensive. Underground, you can find valuable resources like marble, as well as chests with rare gear.

LEGO FortniteImage: Ensiplay

Chests and rare resources can also be found in the open world. Given the massive size of the map, it's worth considering manufacturing transport. A glider can be made from silk and wood, but that's just the beginning. In the future, you can build fast, versatile vehicles.

On your journey, you may encounter steep slopes and cliffs, but that's no problem in the world of LEGO. There are no limits to building. You can construct bridges out of blocks or ramps to climb mountains — as long as you have the resources.

LEGO FortniteImage: Ensiplay

You can also find ruins in the world — very interesting and useful places to explore. They always contain rare resources, but be careful, as bandits may lurk in such places. However, nothing stops you from rolling a huge boulder down the mountain onto the ruins to deal with enemies.

LEGO FortniteImage: Ensiplay

Yes, destruction is also an important part of the game. This applies not only to enemy outposts but to your own buildings as well. A rock accidentally dropped from a slope can destroy homes, so be cautious. Buildings also get destroyed by explosions.

LEGO Fortnite is a prime example of perfect fan service. It's a balanced and enjoyable project that will live and evolve for a long time, just like Fortnite. It's comforting to know that Epic Games will not let this mode become outdated and perish, so if you're looking for a game that you can return to at any time and enjoy the process — LEGO mode is your choice.
