Asus has presented the ROG Ally X, a new version of its portable PC that was originally released in 2023. The company has also opened pre-orders. The Ally X is priced at $800, which is $100 more than the original device in its highest configuration.

The Ally X features an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, which was included in the most expensive versions of the original device. The 7-inch touchscreen IPS display also remains unchanged.

The new device comes with 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, whereas the original models had 16 GB of the slower LPDDR5. The Ally X supports M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs with capacities up to 1 TB. The updated portable PC boasts a battery with double the capacity — 80 Wh.

Asus has slightly altered the device's design for better ergonomics. The company has also improved the cooling system and installed more durable and reliable sticks that now withstand up to 5 million cycles of rotation. The ROG Ally X is 70 grams heavier than the base model.

Bloggers have already shared their first impressions of the ROG Ally X. They noted that the model has enough minor improvements to make the device more convenient to use. However, few are ready to recommend it.

The issue is that buyers of the original ROG Ally often encountered defects, and Asus's customer support was slow to assist them or replace the devices. Many bloggers believe that Asus needs to address these consumer issues thoroughly before they are willing to recommend the device. The company has taken a first step by announcing that all ROG Ally devices will come with a two-year warranty.
