Some gamers need thrills and victories over other players in fierce shootouts or brainy battles, while others play to relax and have fun. While their grandmothers grow carrots and beets at the farm ranches, they do the same, sitting at their computers. They can't taste the results in real life, but that's not the main thing. In the best farm simulators, the process itself brings pleasure.

In genre, My Little Farmies balances between a farm simulator and an economic strategy. The developers finely tuned all game mechanics, and the game's design deserves praise: even in dense and diverse construction, it's easy to understand.

  • Release Date: January 28, 2021
  • Developer: GameOn Production/Alawar Entertainment
  • Download: Steam

A sequel to the popular "Farm Frenzy" by Alawar Entertainment, which made the farm simulator genre so popular. The first Farm Frenzy was a decent game, but gamers criticized it for some flaws, after which the developers worked on improvements. Judging by the high audience ratings, the work was done successfully.

You take on the role of managing a small farm and lead it to prosperity. The graphics are still cartoonish, but now fully 3D, and even a child can understand the controls.

Staxel

StaxelImage: gog.com

Staxel is continuing our list of the best farm simulators. It's a voxel game that will make experienced gamers say: "This looks like Minecraft!" but that's not quite right. Plukit developers were indeed inspired by the visual style of the world's best sandbox game but created a unique and engaging project.

It starts ordinarily: a new owner arrives at an abandoned farm. At first, neighbors look at the newcomer with caution and suspicion, but with your good deeds, you can earn their trust and friendship. To make your farm the best in the area, you'll need to work hard.

The entry threshold for this game is much lower than Minecraft, and a quick training system gets you up to speed. There's also a building element: you can build your estate brick by brick.

  • Release Date: October 11, 2018
  • Developer: Milkstone Studios
  • Download: Steam

At the start of the game, you choose the location for your future farm. You can place your estate high in the mountains, surrounded by picturesque rivers and lakes, or on the more familiar plain.

Different crops need different conditions. Developers also remembered about planting seasons: some plants are planted in early spring, others grow in hot summer, and others meet their first year under snow.

Farm Together lives up to its name: you can visit friends' farms and help them with watering, harvesting, repairing buildings.

Another feature of Farm Together is the wide customization options for both your character and their house. The variety of hats, shirts, and accessories is impressive, you can even try to make an exact copy of yourself in the game, and it's no surprise if friends recognize you.

  • Release Date: February 26, 2016
  • Developer: ConcernedApe
  • Download: Steam

A charming pixel masterpiece that can steal your time, heart, desire to sleep, and will to go to work or school. At first glance, Stardew Valley might seem unimpressive to experienced players used to high-end quality graphics. But after playing a bit, you'll fall in love with it.

Your hero leaves the stuffy metropolis for an old grandpa's farm. You'll do more than just dig in the dirt: you'll literally live in the game. Town residents are not just dummies giving tasks: they have unique personalities, lives, and even celebrate birthdays.

The social aspect is comparable to The Sims series. You'll build relationships, up to creating your own family. As for activities, there are more than enough:

  • farming with a huge variety of plants and animals;
  • building;
  • trading;
  • fishing;
  • mining ores and treasures in mines;
  • crafting various products;
  • engaging quests, festivals, and holidays.

This game is definitely worth your attention!

Autonauts

AutonautsImage: vkplay.ru

  • Release Date: October 17, 2019
  • Developer: Denki
  • Download: Steam

A rather unusual game among farm simulators. Its distinctive feature from other projects is the complete automation of processes using robots. Your hero is not a typical farmer in a plaid shirt, but a real engineer, building farms on uninhabited planets.

You'll have helper robots, automated factories, and lines, collectors, and builders. In the beginning, of course, you'll have to work with your hands, but later automation will do everything for you.

But don't think Autonauts plays itself. You'll need to give commands to the robots. The player must also properly set up the automatic lines for them to work correctly.

Garden Paws

Garden PawsImage: YouTube

  • Release Date: December 18, 2018
  • Developer: Bitten Toast Games Inc
  • Download: Steam

The cutest game in this compilation. The level of 'aww' goes off the charts when you play Garden Paws. It's all about the creatures that inhabit this large world. Your character and all the surrounding creatures are adorable animals that you can customize.

Besides classic farming, there is building your own little house and traveling through a large open world. This open world is not just about dull wandering to NPCs, but also solving puzzles, discovering interesting places, and finding treasures with unique items.

The only downside is the lack of Russian language in the game and no Russian localization. However, the gameplay is so intuitive that it will be clear even to those who do not know English.

  • Release Date: May 6, 2021

Hardcore enthusiasts, who love to replay an entire session due to a wrongly built intersection, didn't particularly love this game. It's quite player-friendly, so it's great for those who just want to relax.

Ranch Simulator

Ranch SimulatorImage: YouTube

  • Release Date: March 4, 2021
  • Developer: Toxic Dog
  • Download: Steam

We're finishing our compilation with a unique game combining building, farming, and hunting simulators. Ranch Simulator is a very interesting project in early access at the time of writing this article but already has a lot of content.

You're presented with a typical American ranch in terrible condition. First, everything needs to be restored, repaired, and rebuilt, from the living house to the outbuildings. Then, you'll engage in farming, livestock farming, and hunting.

The ranch is located in the forests, so there are plenty of meat sources, as well as those who consider you a meat source. The game also includes cooperative play and transport, which you can use not only for farming but also for hunting.

Digging in the ground doesn't always bring suffering and fatigue. If it's digging in a game, you'll get sheer pleasure from it, as it's so nice to watch your own estate flourish.
