The Sims 4 is a life simulator where you create a family, decorate a house, and start developing your characters. Everything goes according to plan: first love, wedding, moving, and the birth of children. It's time to save money for future generations. A parent, for the sake of career advancement, takes on a home assignment — studying the night sky. They buy a telescope, go outside, observe the sky, and die from a meteorite fall after 5 minutes. Unpleasant situation, isn't it?

In this article, we've described all deaths in The Sims 4 so that your characters don't depart prematurely.

Death from Old Age

Having lived enough: death comes to Sims when they are elders. The character ages, their time runs out, and all that remains as a memory is an urn with the deceased's ashes. Fortunately, in the fictional world, there are ways to prolong carefree retirement days. Another character can plead for the departing soul. A Sim at the point of death can drink the Potion of Youth to extend their life. Characters with a writing skill level of 10 can write their or someone else's story in the "Book of Life" and resurrect the dead with its help.

Death from Overexertion

Elders in Sims can leave the world of the living earlier than allotted if they overexert themselves. Excessive enthusiasm for woo-hoo and sports can lead to a heartattack! This type of death is unique and only occurs in the elderly. If active actions are performed several times in a row — mischief in bed and on the treadmill — a strong fatigue moodlet will appear, and the character will die.

Death by Cowplant

If you've ever leveled up a character's gardening skill to the maximum, you know that the cowplant is a predator capable of devouring even an adult Sim. Every time the Cowplant is hungry, it starts to hunt. The plant opens its mouth and lures characters with a piece of cake.

Whether it's a bug or a feature, but in The Sims 4, characters don't mind tasting the forbidden dessert and constantly fall for the plant's trick. As soon as the Sim reaches for the cake, the Cowplant swallows them. Most likely, the Sim will survive after the first bite, but they will become afraid of all plants and won't be able to engage in gardening. Overcoming this fear can be done by milking the Cowplant. Just remember that this flower is very cunning, and surviving next time will be harder.

Death from Rocket Crash

A gruesome fate for Sims who ventured into space without proper preparation—they burn alive. If a character with a low rocket science skill level goes to explore the vast universe, the player will receive a notification about defects in the rocket during the adventure. The spaceship will crash to the ground and catch fire. With a small chance, the Sim may die in the fire.

Death from Starvation

Logical and predictable death: if Sims are not fed for a long time, they will die of hunger. Only teenage and older characters are at risk. Children and pets cannot die of hunger, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't monitor their needs. If you neglect the care of the little ones, social services will take them away, and you won't see more children. Pets will run away and disappear from the family panel.

Death by Electrocution

Danger lurks everywhere, even during microwave or computer repairs. Sims with a low mechanical skill level risk getting to know the god of thunder and lightning personally. Those who decide to fix the malfunction with some chance may receive a lethal electric shock.

After the first time, the character will survive: it's a warning for the future. The moodlet "Seriously Singed" will appear. If you continue to repair with this characteristic — the next electric shock will be the last in the Sim's life.

Death by Fire

Matches are not a toy for children, and by the way, for Sims as well. Sims who cook with a low culinary skill on a cheap stove, forget food in the oven, or leave a lit fireplace unattended, are playing with fire. A fire is likely to start. In an attempt to extinguish the fire, the character may ignite themselves. At this moment, the main thing is not to panic and make the Sim extinguish themselves. Install a fire alarm at home to automatically call firefighters in case of danger.

Death by Anger

Death in The Sims is selective and creative: it breathes down the neck not only of lustful old folks but also of the grumpy ones! If a character's "Very Angry" mood doesn't subside for a long time, their heart may stop from an excess of emotions. This state often occurs in jealous Sims who catch their partner cheating. At first, they just get angry, then they have a scandal. If both lover Sims are nearby, the "Very Angry" character gets more and more negative moodlets and dies.

Calmness is the key to survival in such a situation. Sometimes it's better to sit down and take a breath, apply actions that help reduce anger. For example, swear at a toy, take a calming shower, go to the sauna.

Death by Laughter

We often exaggeratedly respond to a good joke: "Dying of laughter". Only Sims literally laugh until they lose their pulse and die. Laughter may lengthen life, but certainly not in The Sims 4 world. If a character is playful or very playful for several hours in a row, while performing fun actions — fooling around, telling jokes, making faces — Death will become interested and take the joker to the world of the dead. If you see a character joking for several hours in a row — be alert. 

Death by Embarrassment

Blushing from shame is normal. Dying of embarrassment is not normal. The game has plenty of situations that can lead to death from embarrassment. For example, a rejected marriage proposal in front of a crowd, a failed joke, a bad day at school, wet pants from lack of bladder control. The longer a Sim walks with a suppressed embarrassment mood, the higher the probability of death.

Monitor the emotions and experiences of your characters to avoid such a tragic ending.

Death by Meteorite

When using a telescope on the night sky, Sims sometimes receive a notification, "Oops... *character's name* notices a meteorite flying straight at them", and the "Scared" moodlet for 20 minutes. During this time, the Sim needs to run from the open space to a roof, or else a meteorite will fall on the young astronomer and crush them! That's how, while observing the stars, a Sim can accidentally join them. 😔🥀

Death by Sauna Overheating

Death by Onigiri

In the "City Living" expansion, an outdoor kitchen appeared, and the character learns new recipes by trying it. For example, you can learn about onigiri made from dangerous fugu fish. A Sim with a low culinary skill risks their life when deciding to cook this dish. Improperly processed fugu can be a ticket for a gastronomic journey with no return.

The worse the quality of the dish, the higher the chances of a fatal outcome. A Sim who tasted poorly cooked food starts coughing, grabbing their throat, their face turns red, their eyes darken — and here they are on the floor, with Death and a scythe nearby.

Death by Sunlight

With the "Vampires" expansion, developers added immortal vampires. The only enemy of an occult character is the sun. If a bloodsucker stands under the sun's rays for too long, their skin begins to blacken and smoke. After a few hours of a daytime walk without an umbrella, the Sim dies. To avoid this, you need to level up vampire talents, which provide sunlight immunity.

Death by Poison Dart

In the "Jungle Adventure" DLC, while exploring the secrets of ancient ruins, Sims may encounter various traps, one of which is a poisoned dart. Getting hit by the projectile immediately causes panic, and after a few minutes, weakness sets in, turning into convulsions. The Sim needs to find an antidote within a few hours, or else they will die. The skin will be covered with green blisters, the body will stop obeying, convulsions will overcome the weakened character, and they will fall lifeless.

Death by Hamster

In the "My First Pet Stuff" expansion, even cute rodents can be deadly. Friendship with a fluffy friend can turn into a tragedy if a Sim plays with a sick hamster. The character will be infected with rabies and die. Now both children and adult Sims can become acquainted with death not only through hamsters but also through other Sims.

Death by Weather

"Seasons" is the most beloved and anticipated expansion for many players. You can build a snowman, skate, sunbathe, collect autumn leaves, and die from extreme weather conditions.

In winter, staying in the cold without outerwear for a long time, a Sim experiences freezing. At first, they just shiver from the cold, then their skin turns blue, and movements slow down. Eventually, without reaching warm shelter, the Sim freezes to death.

In summer, during the heat, characters become sluggish, their skin reddens, they start breathing heavily, and if they don't find a cool place, they die from overheating. In spring and autumn, when storms happen more often, it's better to stay home and not go outside. Several lightning strikes in a row instantly kill the Sim.

Death by Mother Plant

Not only the chewing plant is dangerous for characters. The "Strangerville" expansion introduced a deadly family plant! The mother plant in Strangerville appears as part of the town's storyline. Your Sim must "defeat" it, preferably in a group. If attempted alone, death is imminent.

On the first attempt to defeat the mother plant, the character experiences mild fright and the "stunning touch" midlet. If an impatient altruist doesn't learn from their mistakes and tries to confront the mother plant alone again, death awaits.

The mother plant devours the character, turning them into a ghost with the "victim of the savage appetite of the mother plant" trait. This poltergeist has an unusual appearance: clusters of spores float around, and a unique action appears — the ability to possess any mysterious plant in the town and destroy it.

Death by Magic

In the "Realm of Magic" expansion, following J.K. Rowling's canon, danger lurks at every step in the magical world. Death comes to a wizard who accumulates an excessive level of magical charge. With so much magical energy, the character cannot withstand the power and perishes.

Death by Murphy Bed

Beds can be lethal too. In "Tiny Living", Sims got a new sleeping place, the Murphy bed. It saves space in the house and kills your characters. The interior killer was too wild at release, so developers decided to "calm it down" in future updates. Lethal cases from a bed hitting the head now happen very rarely.

Still, stay vigilant, remember that when going to sleep on a Murphy bed, a Sim might not wake up, but what a plot twist for your story!

Death by Beetles and Flies

In "Eco Lifestyle", characters can die from beetles. If a Sim decides to drink beetle juice three times in a row, turning into a ghost is guaranteed! However, death won't come with this poltergeist, and the character just changes shape. Beetle juice definitely won't work on robots and vampires.

Flies are a different story. If your Sim messes too much with garbage, there's a chance they may become a meal for insects. A swarm of flies will arrive, sticking to the character until they drop lifeless. Sounds like a horror movie plot.

Death by Vending Machine

The "Snowy Spaces" is a wonderful, cozy addition inspired by Japanese culture, but remind us in the comments, in which city do characters die from vending machines? In any city from The Sims 4, if there is a vending machine with soda and chips!

A Sim who decides to retrieve a stuck item can apply physical force and shake or hit the machine several times in a row. The machine may reciprocate and crush the unfortunate character. That's how it happens: both money and life are lost.

Death by Falling from a Height

In the expansion "Snowy Expanses", a new type of hobby has appeared — rock climbing. Characters head to the mountains, conquer peaks, enjoy snowy landscapes, and perish if they were overconfident.

An attempt to conquer a difficult section of the mountain with a low level of rock climbing will cost the character's life. It's better to practice on climbs for beginners before ascending a difficult section.

Death by Rabbit

In the "Countryside Living" DLC, rabbits are not as harmless as they seem! The fluffy eared creature will not tolerate rude treatment and will attack the sim if they perform malicious actions towards it. The first attack will stun the sim, and a repeated encounter will be fatal.

Death by Chicken

A similar situation arises in the same expansion with chickens! If the sim fails to find the right approach to the feathered foe, it will kill them. It will attack and peck to death. The first time, as with rabbits, the character escapes with a light fright, but a repeated encounter with the aggressive bird becomes fatal.

Death by Mold

In the "High School Years" expansion, a unique and quite unusual way of death for Sims was introduced. If a character places a stink bomb capsule in a school locker, there's a slight chance the owner will die when opening it. Only those with a mischief skill level of 3 are at risk.

Death after Meeting a Urban Legend

In the same expansion, but with a mischief skill level of 8, sims can encounter an urban legend and later, death. The urban legend is a game analog of the Lady of Spades, summoned through a mirror.

Initiating the sequence of events is aided by the action "Summon Urban Legend" in the mischief menu. The first time, nothing serious happens—sims can only laugh about it. However, if they continue summoning the legend, the character begins to notice something strange and gets scared. If, in this state, the sim attempts to summon the legend again, they realize it's real and die.

Death by Critical Breakdown

In the "University" expansion, a new life form was introduced — servo robots, which can be assembled at the special workstation called "Dr. F's Official Robot Crafting Bench".

Servo robots can't die of old age and don't have child or teen versions. It might seem like they've achieved immortality, but no, the mechanisms can still break. If a servo robot is malfunctioning and not repaired within a few hours, it will turn into scrap metal. Servo robots are vulnerable to water, which can cause a critical breakdown and "death": avoid sending them to take showers.

Death in the Pool

Death in the pool is a classic in The Sims games! Carefree water nymphs go for a swim in the pool, unaware that the player is about to remove the ladder, dooming them to demise. In parts 3 and 4, characters learned to climb out of pools without a ladder but can still drown if swimming with low energy levels. The most tried-and-true way to send a sim to a watery grave is to build a fence around the pool.

Death in the pool has long become a meme among players — a dark but amusing reminder not to conflict with Sims players, or else the digital copy of the offender will go for a swim.
