The seventh patch for Baldur's Gate 3 is expected to be the last major update for the RPG. After its release, the developers will cease active support for the game and will only release minor updates aimed at fixing bugs. This was announced by Larian Studios head Swen Vincke in an interview.

The RPG will receive official mod support in the seventh patch. According to Vincke, this will be the final step in handing over Baldur's Gate 3 to the players, who will then be able to create any extensions and modifications themselves.

The game director admitted that he is eagerly awaiting the moment when the studio completes work on mod support for Baldur's Gate 3. He mentioned that while Larian is happy to work on BG3, his team is looking forward to moving on to their next projects.

The developers of Baldur's Gate 3 are still working on mod support. Vincke stated that this task has proven to be quite challenging, which is why it has taken the team some time. The release of the seventh patch is scheduled for September 2024.

In the conversation, Vincke also reiterated that the early access launch of Baldur's Gate 3 was very beneficial for Larian. Feedback from engaged players helped the studio adjust their course in time and avoid numerous mistakes before it was too late.

Vincke recommended the early access model to other developers, calling it extremely useful. However, the game director noted that four years in early access is a long period, as players may grow tired during this time. According to Vincke, it is most important to respect the audience, so extending the early access phase too long is not advisable.

As of June 2024, Larian Studios is working on two RPGs based on their own franchises. One of them is codenamed Excalibur.
