The Steam rating for Tekken 8 has dropped to "Mostly Negative." Only 37% of the reviews during the last 30 days are positive. This situation occurred amidst player dissatisfaction related to the game's battle pass. While the game received a warm welcome, and many players believed that Tekken 8 was a great step forward, such a change of heart brings even more contrast.

In reviews, gamers complain about aggressive monetization and a sense of "betrayal" from developers. In some cases, Tekken 8 is being compared to Call of Duty, drawing parallels between their game monetization systems. Criticism of the fighting game arose because developers introduced the battle pass a month after the game's release.

The battle pass itself could be fine if not for two cases. First, Bandai Namco introduced it shortly after the game was released, but nothing was said prior about it. Second, its cost is 600 Tekken Coins, but players can simultaneously purchase either 500 or 1,050 coins, which is considered to be a predatory practice that players are not happy with.

Tekken 8 was released on January 25, 2024. The game is available on PC via the Steam digital store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
