The ninth season of Overwatch 2 brings a series of significant changes to the gameplay. The project probably hasn't changed this much since the release of Overwatch 2 itself. New rules were published in advance. They sparked a wave of dissatisfaction among the game's fans.

Changes were made to all characters in the game. Let's look at the most significant updates:

  • All characters now have regeneration: they recover 20 health points per second if they do not take damage for 5 seconds.
  • Health for all characters was increased by amounts ranging from 25 to 100 points.
  • All assault characters had their passive skill replaced. Previously, they received a cooldown acceleration after a kill, but now hitting an enemy reduces the amount of healing the enemy receives (by 20% for 2 seconds).
  • Hitboxes were also updated. The dimensions of many projectiles have been increased.
  • Pharah has been completely changed: her jetpack now enhances horizontal mobility instead of vertical. This transformation alters not just the character's role but also one of the most famous combinations in Overwatch history — "PharMercy". Now, this combo will not be as effective as before.

After the changes were published, player reactions were mixed. For instance, the health regeneration for all Overwatch 2 characters was met with little enthusiasm. Based on the list of changes, it seems that the role of support heroes has been diminished.
