The highly anticipated PUBG Update 29.1 has arrived on PC and will hit consoles on April 18. The main feature is the destructible environment, allowing players to create cover during combat by blowing up the landscape with grenades, sticky bombs, C4, or digging trenches with the new melee weapon.

Demolishing terrain near walls will also affect the area beyond them. Items and placed objects within the destruction zone will not be harmed, but deployed shields will lose some durability.

In addition to digging trenches, the pickaxe proves useful in close combat. With 60 damage points, it can inflict serious harm on enemies. Weighing 40 units, it spawns on the map as loot.

  • After Phase 2, EMP zones will not appear, and their frequency has been reduced.
  • The explosion sound has been diminished, and the activation timer following the warning has been increased. Instead of 3 airdrops, the emergency shelter flare now calls in 2. The falling speed, the distance between them, and the size of the shelters have decreased.
  • Overly difficult in-game challenges have been modified or removed, and new ones have been added.
  • The reward system has been revised. A bridge has been added south of Rai An, along with new objects and ridgelines, enhancing the landscape in problematic areas with limited cover. Some environmental elements have had their textures and resolution refined.

The destructible environment and other innovations in Patch 29.1 have introduced new tactical depth to PUBG, making battles even more thrilling and unpredictable. Players will need to master new strategies considering the altered gameplay. This is the first step towards a global update of the game on the Unreal Engine 5, scheduled for this year.
