Disney purchased a share package in Epic Games valued at $1.5 billion. Along with this, the companies announced a collaboration that will lead to an entirely new universe of games and entertainment related to Fortnite.

Technically, the companies had already been working together when themed skins appeared in the battle royale game. However, this time the scale will be much larger. In the new game—likely a project within Fortnite — gamers will encounter characters from Disney and Pixar, including heroes from "Star Wars", "Avatar", Marvel movies, and more.

The news was announced during Disney's quarterly teleconference for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024. The new experience, created on Unreal Engine, will allow fans to play, watch, shop, and interact with their favorite characters.

Players will also be able to create their own content within Fortnite. There is no tentative release date for this global project yet, but the companies are calling it a "multi-year plan".

Likely, the system will be created similarly to LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. These are all separate games within Fortnite, launched through the battle royale client.

Epic Games has already released a trailer showing the future game location.

Before the deal becomes effective, it must be reviewed by regulatory authorities. When this will happen is currently unknown.
