The legendary RPG Fallout 4 has gained a second wave of popularity due to the release of a successful show. In addition, a free next-gen update of 14 GB has been released. Unfortunately, the patch has broken the game in some areas, causing crashes, mod incompatibilities, and some PC saves to stop working. This is known from player complaints in the Steam discussion.

Next-Gen update Fallout 4 crashesImage: reddit.comThe most common issues reported are pop-up errors when loading previous saves and incompatibility with certain mods, such as Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE). In the case of mods, the developers are not at fault; the extension author must update the code. However, frequent crashes of Fallout 4 on PCs with GeForce RTX are caused by the "Bullet Debris" graphical setting. Besides this, other known issues in the post-apocalyptic role-playing game include:

  • Stretched interface on ultrawide monitors, support for which should have appeared after installing the patch.
  • Many players complained that there were no noticeable changes in graphics or loading speed. It is important to note that Bethesda released a patch for PC, not a next-gen update as in the case of consoles. This means that no graphical improvements should have occurred on computers.

As for the next-gen patch for Xbox Series and PS5, the developers added graphical modes with 4K resolution and support for up to 60 fps.
