The developers of Elden Ring decided to follow their ambitions and approached the creation of the DLC with full responsibility. The gigantism is visible in the new map, which is astonishing in its scale. The total area of the new map will be comparable to the Limgrave region, which is a lot for an expansion.

This was also mentioned by Hidetaka Miyazaki himself. Limgrave is one of the largest areas in the original game. Exploring it, players could spend many hours, and the new map will be of the same scale. However, the new area will be more densely packed and will include small locations, vast open fields, a swamp, and large-scale dungeons.

Moreover, this will not be just a piece of land next to the original map. It is an entirely new section of the world, separate from the Lands Between. It cannot be reached by roads or through a dungeon. A special "warp ritual" will be required, and this will somehow be related to Miquella. This character will become key in the new story and will lead you into the Land of Shadow.

Hidetaka Miyazaki intentionally remains silent about the exact dimensions of the map in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. This is because he does not want to reveal too much and aims to preserve the spirit of adventure for players. Only those who first explore the new map will be able to tell about its real scale.
