XDefiant, a free-to-play arena shooter, has gathered lots of attention since its closed beta and public test. However, there was almost zero news about the upcoming release. In Ubisoft’s Earnings report, the company aimed to release the game by the end of March, but now it looks like it won’t be happening.

Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming reported that developers "missed dozens of internal targets in the past couple of years." According to Henderson’s sources, developers are frustrated by the lack of progress and the executive’s pursuit of copying Call of Duty. Henderson summed up: XDefiant might be months away from its release.

However, after the publication, Mark Rubin, the executive producer of XDefiant, shared his point of view.

According to Rubin, the delay is caused by tech issues.

Part of it was scale. Under small tests, some stuff worked fine but when you scale up there were compounding issues causing major issues in those systems. Also, some of the netcode issues were due to increased anti-cheat which sadly is always something that hurts performance.

Mark Rubin announced that he will share some news this week. We’re eagerly waiting.
