EVO is the most respected FGC event with lots of history and legacy. The 2024 edition of the series is breaking record as more than 10,000 unique competitors have registered for the event. This shows that everything is good within the fighting game genre.

But how do different fighting games feel in terms of player interest? Of course, the amount of players in the separate bracket does not reflect everything, yet we can see some tendencies.

The two biggest games are without a doubt Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6. Outsiders often compare these two games as rivals although they are not as one is a 3D-fighter and the other is a 2D-fighter. They are too different and that shows in numbers as there are slightly more than third of all players overlapping.

To some people, it would look surprising that in the top-6 we have three Arc System Works games: Guilty Gear -Strive-, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising and Under Night In-Birth 2 are all games with a solid community, although the gap is big.

What may look really disappointing are the Mortal Kombat 1 registration numbers. It looks like the competitive scene of MK1 is declining. Even though it is EVO, the biggest event, not that many people are keen on this reboot of the franchise. This is a food for thoughts to Ed Boon and his team.

EVO 2024 will occur in Las Vegas on July 19-21.
