While Activision is making announcements of the newest Call of Duty game, Ubisoft is busy with the launch and the inaugural season of its competitor, XDefiant.

The number of unique players in Ubisoft's free-to-play online shooter has reached approximately 7.6 million as of May 28. This information was reported by journalist Tom Henderson, citing his own sources.

"Unique" players are defined as those who installed the game on their gaming devices and launched the shooter at least once, Henderson noted.

Before the release, Ubisoft set a goal of five million unique players within the first thirty days. Thus, the company has already surpassed its initial target. While this might sound positive, the biggest challenge is starting: it matters the most when you can retain these players.

The maximum number of concurrent players in XDefiant reached 700,000. XDefiant was released on May 21. The average score for the shooter on OpenCritic is 72 out of 100. The shooter hit this peak on Monday, May 27. Yet, it's hard to predict the future dynamic of the game. It has great potential but a lot of work needs to be done.
