X social media user with the nickname josh_space posted photos from the set of the Minecraft film adaptation. So far, the only thing the gamer was able to capture through the fence were the square trees used as decorations for the film.

The filming of "Minecraft" is currently taking place in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. The director is Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite") and among the screenwriters and producers are the leaders of the developer studio Mojang.

The film is scheduled for release on April 4, 2025.

In March 2024, actor Jack Black, who will embody the main character Steve on screen, admitted that he is taking the role very seriously. He constantly plays Minecraft, noting ideas that will be useful during filming. Black jokes that this approach guarantees him an Oscar award.
