On March 25th, a day before the official release, the first reviews of the adventure action game South Park: Snow Day! appeared online. The game's average score on the review aggregator Metacritic is 62 out of 100 based on 26 reviews from various publications.

On another platform, OpenCritic, the game received a similar score of 62 out of 100, based on 16 reviews. Notably, only a quarter of the journalists recommended South Park: Snow Day! for playing.

Critics almost unanimously agreed that the Question studio and publisher THQ Nordic failed to create an engaging gameplay experience. Initially, the gameplay may seem simple but interesting, but closer to the second half of the playthrough, it becomes unbearably monotonous and dull.

However, the author of the IGN review called the narrative "toothless", and the jokes completely out of place for a game set in the South Park universe. They do not recommend South Park: Snow Day! even to die-hard fans of the franchise.

Among the game's strengths, journalists highlighted the moderately interesting story, some engaging gameplay scenes, some successful jokes, and attention to detail. The downsides included monotonous gameplay, awkward controls, camera issues, a dull visual style, superficial "roguelike" mechanics, useless AI companions, numerous bugs, and an overall feeling that this is not quite a South Park game.
