Following recent changes within Activision's studios, intriguing details regarding the development of the Call of Duty shooter series have come to light. It turns out that nearly 10 years ago, a separate game within the franchise, entirely dedicated to battles with hordes of zombies, was actively in development. Players could have received a unique shooter temporarily named Call of Duty: Zombies, but the project was canceled by Treyarch Studio.

Information about the development of Call of Duty with zombies became known through the updated job profile description of Raven Studio's game designer Michael Gamble. He previously reported on creating prototypes for the revival of the studio's classic game, and now has spoken about Call of Duty: Zombies.

According to the developer, the development of Call of Duty with zombies was actively pursued between 2012-2014 under the leadership of an experienced team from Raven Studio. The project was in development for a long time, parallel to the studio's main tasks.

The developers planned to create a shooter with live-service elements, foregoing story missions and focusing on modes and various activities for players. Unfortunately, the project was canceled by Treyarch Studio, which considered zombies exclusively as their trademark and did not approve such experiments with zombies within Call of Duty.
