The Esports World Cup will be the main esports event in the summer, so even open qualifiers for it are a fierce competition with many skilled teams. The format of the first day is unforgiving: teams are playing in a single elimination bracket on only one map, so seeing some of the upsets is unsurprising.

Team Falcons, coached by five-time Major winner Zonic, lost their Round of 32 match against RUBY (11:13 on Mirage). But they are not the only big team that has already been eliminated. 9Pandas, who qualified for the Copenhagen Major but couldn't attend due to visa, will also miss the Riyadh tournament because they lost to Sashi Esport (11:13 on Overpass). 

Gaimin Gladiators, who recently entered the CS scene by signing ECSTATIC, are eliminated as well (11:13 on Inferno vs DMS). Heroic, who shared the 12-14th places with ECSTATIC, is also out. Among other notable eliminated tags are 9INE, Copenhagen Wolves, and 3DMAX.

The Round of 16 will start tomorrow. Only two winners will join Cloud9 and Eternal Fire in the closed qualifier.
