With the demise of E3, the flag of the biggest gaming exhibition was arguably captured by Gamescom. The event in Cologne draws many eyes of gamers across the globe, and many publishers tend to bring something special to Germany.

However, this year Gamescom will not have one of the biggest game developers and publishers. A representative of Nintendo's European division has announced the company's decision to withdraw from participating in Gamescom 2024. Nintendo noted that Gamescom is a "central event for the company." However, this time they opted out after "careful consideration."

The Japanese company did not specify whether they intend to host their own Nintendo Direct presentations in the summer instead of participating in the expo.

In September 2023, it was reported that Nintendo showcased their next console behind closed doors during Gamescom 2023. At that time, the Japanese company also presented several technical demos.

Gamescom 2024 will go for four days (August 21-25) in Cologne.
